The petition follows news that the Welsh music legend will not return for the next series of the ITV talent show in 2027.
Sir Tom has been a coach on the programme since it first aired in 2012 (apart from one year in 2016), recording three wins and becoming a beloved presence for both contestants and viewers.
A spokesperson for The Voice UK said: “We have loved working with Sir Tom Jones over the past nine years on The Voice UK.
“While he will no longer be a full-time coach on series 15, we continue to talk to Sir Tom and his team about his involvement in the next series.”
ITV reveals major overhaul on The Voice UK
The broadcaster has announced a major overhaul of the show, with Girls Aloud star Cheryl and rapper Aitch joining the coaching panel in 2027.
They will appear alongside returning coaches Kelly Rowland and Will.i.am, replacing Sir Tom as well as McFly’s Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher.
Stacey Solomon and Alesha Dixon are also joining The Voice UK in 2027, replacing Emma Willis, who is hosting the new series of Strictly Come Dancing.
Sir Tom Jones reveals “I did not want to leave The Voice”
Sir Tom has said it was not his decision to leave The Voice.
In a statement shared on Instagram, he said: “To be clear, I did not want to leave The Voice as I love the show and really appreciate the audience.
“ITV made this decision, obviously a while ago, and I was told just recently.
“The reason given is because of a financial difficulty with insurance.
“They now say in the press they wanted to ‘refresh’ the show, and with a new coaching line-up there wouldn’t be a chair for me.
“They are offering a much-reduced role where I would make an appearance but without being actually involved from the start, and I’m not thrilled about that.
“So the only thing I know right now, is that there’s never a good time to fire an 86-year-old who’s still pretty good at his job.”
82,000 fans sign petition to keep Sir Tom Jones on The Voice UK
A Change.org petition to keep Sir Tom on The Voice UK beyond 2026 has now reached more than 80,000 signatures.
The petition argues that removing the 86-year-old will not only disappoint fans but deprive contestants of a mentor with “decades of music industry experience”.
It reads: “For many fans, Sir Tom is an essential part of The Voice UK.
“His genuine interactions, insightful critiques, and mentorship have had a profound impact not only on the contestants but also on the audience.
“He brings a wealth of knowledge to the show, having mentored winning acts and propelled careers of numerous artists who otherwise might have gone unnoticed.
“This removal seems unfair and disrespectful, not just to Sir Tom, who has dedicated himself to the role since its inception, but also to the loyal viewers who have supported the show because of his participation.
“His presence has been integral to the chemistry and success of the programme.”
The petition has received 82,224 signatures (at the time of writing).
Sir Tom took to social media again over the weekend, thanking everyone for their recent support.
He said: “So many heartfelt messages, comments and even petitions of support.
“It doesn’t go unnoticed and it’s been really lovely to receive these!
“Thank you!”
This is not the first time Sir Tom has been dropped from The Voice UK.
He was previously axed ahead of the fifth series in 2016, and at the time criticised the BBC for giving him just 24 hours’ notice.
The Voice originally aired on BBC One before ITV acquired the rights for its sixth series.
The 15th series (the 10th on ITV) is scheduled to air in 2027, while the current series of The Voice UK is airing on Saturday nights on ITV1, ITVX, STV, and STV Player.
