As we move into Wednesday and Thursday, the weather forecasters have warned that there is ” a lot of uncertainty in the forecast”, with the potential for disruptive rain, snow and wind in parts of the country.
This warning comes after snow and rain were forecast for south Wales during the same time last week, with a warning that temperatures would drop and bring snow showers to higher ground and heavy rain to lower areas.
The Met Office says that the “most likely” scenario (60 per cent chance of occurrence) would see much of the Vale of Glamorgan plastered with snow, with snowfall predicted in areas between 100 and 200 metres above sea level. These areas will see around 2-5cm of snow, with isolated areas seeing 15cm.

That means coastal and low‑lying areas including much of Barry’s seafront, Sully, Dinas Powys and Aberthaw would likely escape snow.
Higher areas such as Barry town, Llantwit Major, and some of Penarth would be at risk of deep snow.
Strong winds will accompany this snowfall, with gusts in exposed spots across south Wales reaching 45 to 55 mph.
The “less likely” scenario (30 per cent chance of occurrence) would see low pressure move across southern England and heavy rain widespread across south Wales. around 15-30mm of rain is expected in this scenario, with 40-60mm on hills and high ground. Snow and strong winds will still occur, though they will largely miss the Vale of Glamorgan.
The Met Office’s “least likely” scenario (10 per cent chance of occurrence) will see most of Wales battered by heavy rain as snow moves north toward Northern Ireland and North Wales. This heavy rain would see between 15-30mm fall across much of the country, with 40-60mm on hills and high ground. South Wales will also miss the chance of any strong gusts of wind to accompany this disruptive weather.
The Met Office states that whilst these are the “most likely” scenarios for Wednesday into Thursday, locals should bear in mind that other outcomes are still possible.
Drivers should take extra care on potentially icy and slippery roads during this time.
It is advised to keep an eye on local forecasts and prepare for any possible disruptions to travel and services.
