A weekly blog at “Let’s talk about dementia”

by martyn jones

Never in the history of mankind did not talking about something scary make it disappear.

Our weekly blog was launched in June 2014, hosted and supported by Alzheimer Scotland and led by Elaine Hunter, national allied health professional consultant at Alzheimer Scotland.

Since April 2014, we have posted 640 blogs. In 2025 we shared 43 blogs, reaching a truly international audience, people reading the blogs in the UK, USA, Ireland, Australia, Canada, Netherland, India, Singapore, Poland, South Africa and many more.

We have a host of blog writers including our allied health professionals (AHPS) where we are developing a series of “what does dementia rehabilitation mean to you”, AHP students, people with lived experience, nurse consultants and international visitors from Australia. It is great when people comment on the posts either on the blog posts or on our social media platforms. You can see a range of the comments below:

Great blog Morna – really highlights the important role OTs/AHPs have working with people with moderate to advanced stages of dementia – thank you

I was so thrilled and impressed to read this placement account. It was so full of people to meet – places and organizations you visited. I want to congratulate you on this

This is an amazing read, quite informative. Thanks

Thank you for sharing. I really enjoyed reading about the development of your project and the phenomenal results! It can be so hard at times to know and be able to show that what you did made the difference, but you have been able to do that here. Very exciting and innovative.

I love this fantastic example of improvement. It deserves to be written up and shared further – maybe with some more formal evaluation. Great work

thank you for your reflections – they are very insightful. It is great to hear about these placement opportunities for AHPs to work with people with dementia.

l like the variety of blogs, that they’re not too long and are easy to read. Particularly like when links are included for resources that can be used and shared.

We aim to post a new blog every Thursday and you can enter your email address to follow the blog and receive notifications of new posts by email at  https://letstalkaboutdementia.wordpress.com/. If you would like to contribute a blog post, email us at AHPDementia@alzscot.org

All that is left for me to say, in our last blog of 2025, is thank you to all our blog contributors and all our blog readers. Keep following and supporting us in 2026 so we can keep talking about dementia.

Contributor, Elaine Hunter @elaineahpmh
