Buck Meek returns with his second LP released on 4AD, where he befriends the unknown during 11 ethereal tracks that find the artist at his most experimental, curious and free. Produced by Big Thief bandmate and longtime collaborator James Krivechenia, with further familial contributions – Adrianne Lenker on vocals, Adam Brisbin on guitar, and Ken Woodward on bass among others – The Mirror finds pulse in playful collaboration and comfort in questions rather than answers.
Employing a philosophical language of the everyday, the artist looks for meaning and duality on songs like Pretty Flowers: “Show me how to come into my power without being mean / The garden weeds are making it look easy”. Nature remains a central source of inspiration and light that guides the artist through the unknown, as does memory on the opener, Gasoline: “We lay in silence through the morning / Until language slowly started forming / She hummed a lullaby / I recognised it from when I was a newborn.” The record is a continuation of the artist’s deep spiritual journey, the music being his vessel.
