All train services have been cancelled
A person has been pronounced dead after emergency services were called to an incident on a Welsh railway track.
British Transport Police were called to Abergavenny train station alongside paramedics and officers from Gwent Police following reports of a casualty on the tracks on Wednesday.
The train station was closed from around 1pm with all services delayed or cancelled as emergency services worked at the scene.
The casualty was pronounced dead at the scene and officers said their death is not being treated as suspicious.
A British Transport Police spokesman said: “Officers were called at around 1pm on March 11 to Abergavenny railway station following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Officers responded with paramedics however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.”
Transport for Wales issued a statement to say train services were facing major disruption after emergency services responded to an incident at Abergavenny.
Trains between Newport (South Wales) and Hereford faced delays of up to 60 minutes with some services cancelled in both directions while the line remains closed through the area.
The disruption was expected to affect journeys from 1pm until 6pm on Wednesday.
A Transport for Wales spokesman said trains cannot run through Abergavenny while emergency services carry out their work and has apologised to passengers, adding further updates would be provided.
