Pair in court accused of shoplifting from Barry Asda

Leighton Drew, 34, of Excelsior Terrace in Maerdy, Rhondda Cynon Taff, appeared at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court charged with theft from a shop.

It was alleged that Drew stole multiple items worth a total of £52.47 from Asda in Barry on January 5.

Drew pleaded guilty on February 27.

He was fined £120, and was sentenced to pay £52.47 in compensation, £85 in costs, and a £48 surcharge.

Bethan Matthews, 32, also Excelsior Terrace in Maerdy, was charged alongside Drew with jointly shoplifting from Asda on that date.

She pleaded not guilty at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on February 27.

Matthews was granted bail, and will return to court for a trial on April 21.
