U Test Diagnostics, based in Cowbridge, has secured a £225,000 loan from FW Capital through the British Business Bank’s Investment Fund for Wales.

The funding will support the rollout of its rapid diagnostic kits.

Harry Griffiths, co-founder of U Test Diagnostics, said: “U Test is for the masses, not just the privileged few.

“These tests can genuinely save someone’s life, and we’ve always prided ourselves on making the tests affordable.

“This investment means we can keep up with demand from retailers and boost our marketing, to make more people aware of the range of tests available.”

The start-up offers tests covering organ health, infections, reproductive health, and deficiencies.

Each kit provides results in five to 10 minutes.

Growth has been driven by contracts with major retailers like Home Bargains and Savers.

U Test is also in discussions with the NHS about supplying bowel screening tests and has secured exclusive UK and Ireland rights to sell the world’s first and only saliva-based pregnancy test, which will be launched in Morrisons stores UK-wide at the end of April.

Navid Falatoori, deputy fund manager at FW Capital, said: “U Test is scaling quickly by combining clinical quality with accessibility.

“Their growth in the first 11 months shows clear market demand for accurate, fast at-home testing.”

The Investment Fund for Wales was launched in 2023 and offers loans from £25,000 to £2 million and equity investments up to £5 million.
