Thief raided Barry and Llantwit Major shops in crime spree

James Denham, 36, was charged with 13 offences of theft from a shop across February and March this year.

He raided shops in Barry, Llantwit Major, Cardiff, and Taff’s Well, and the total recorded value of the goods he stole was £2,468.89.

Denham was accused of stealing 28 packs of ham, worth £78, from Co-op in Cardiff on February 4.

On February 9, he was accused of stealing 104 PIXL Duo vapes – valued at £1,174.96 – from Spar in Llantwit Major and £141-worth of chocolates from Co-op in Cardiff.

He was alleged to have stolen £51.13 in meat products on February 15 and three steaks totalling £22.05 on February 22 – both from Co-op in Barry.

Denham was then accused of stealing four packs each of Finish Ultimate and Finish Ultimate Quantum Lemon dishwasher tablets from Co-op in Taff’s Well on March 7. These were valued at a total of £72.

He was also charged with stealing vacuum cleaner worth £59 from Asda in Cardiff and 20 packs of corned beef, worth £56, from Co-op in Cardiff on February 13.

Less than a week later, on March 18, Denham was accused of stealing four pairs of glasses frames from Specsavers in Cardiff – worth £560 – and a £99 Dewalt circular saw from B&Q.

On March 20 he was accused of swiping two ribeye steaks, three Aberdeen steaks and one beef steak, totalling £68.50, from Co-op in Cardiff.

The next day Denham was alleged to have stolen three beef steaks, an Aberdeen steak, and three lamb chops, worth a total of £87.25, from Co-op in Cardiff, as well as an unknown value of alcohol, meats and cheese from Radyr Service Station.

The defendant, of Pinehurst Road in Fairwater, Cardiff, pleaded guilty to each of the charges.

At Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on March 23, Denham was sentenced to a total of 32 weeks, suspended for 18 months.

He must complete a 12-month drug rehabilitation order with Dyfodyl and 30 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

Denham was not ordered to pay any costs, a surcharge, or compensation due to not having the means to pay.
