Welsh actor Michael Sheen is among the 21 stars who will be vying for a chance to don the cape and cause chaos in the infamous Scottish castle in the Highlands for the chance to win a cash prize of up to £100,000 for a charity of their choice.
Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, the game follows the celebrity contestants – the majority of whom are known as Faithfuls – as they try to seek out the murderous traitors among them, who kill off players in the middle of the night.
The first series of The Celebrity Traitors aired on the BBC last autumn, with its nail-biting finale hitting a peak of 15.4 million viewers, according to the broadcaster.
It featured a star-studded cast including actors Celia Imrie and Nick Mohammed, singer Paloma Faith, author and actor Sir Stephen Fry, broadcaster Jonathan Ross and comedian Alan Carr, who went on to win as a Traitor.
The spin-off series brought in an average audience of 14.9 million people during its run – the biggest TV audience of 2025.
What is The Traitors?
All of the contestants will arrive at the castle as Faithfuls but that soon changes as Traitors are chosen amongst the group. The sole aim of the Faithfuls is to detect and banish each traitor before the game ends. The Traitors must stay undetected and escape banishment.
If the Faithfuls successfully banish all the Traitors before the end of the game, the remaining Faithfuls will win and walk away with the prize money. If there are any Traitors remaining at the end of the game, the remaining Traitors will win and take the money.
In most episodes, the group gathers at the Round Table to discuss who they feel are Traitors and can ‘banish’ a contestant to eliminate them from the game. The contestant who receives the most votes is banished and must leave the castle immediately, but not before revealing their role as Traitor or Faithful to the rest of the group.
Most evenings, the Traitors meet in secret and can choose a Faithful together to ‘murder’ and eliminate from the game. The chosen Faithful finds out they have been murdered and the rest of the group will learn the identity of the ‘murdered’ during the next morning’s breakfast.
The Faithful and Traitors must work together throughout the game in a series of challenges and tasks called ‘missions’ to potentially add money into the prize pot, with a total prize fund of up to £100,000 for a charity of their choice in the celebrity version of the game.
Who is Michael Sheen?
Born in Newport in 1969, Michael Sheen is a stage and screen actor, who trained at London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He worked largely in theatre throughout the 1990s with roles in Rome and Juliet (1992), Henry V (1997), Look Back in Anger (1999), and Caligula (2003).
He began screen acting in the 2000s, focusing on biographic films, and starred in a trilogy of films as British Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair – the television film The Deal (2003), The Queen (2006), and The Special Relationship (2010) – earning him nominations for a BAFTA Award and an Emmy.
Since then, he has starred in a number of films and television shows including The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009), Tron Legacy (2010), Fox’s Prodigal Son (2019-2021) and BBC/Amazon Studios fantasy comedy series Good Omens (2019-present).
