Barry residents fined for motoring offences in court

The defendants were accused of offences including speeding, driving without insurance, and having no vehicle tax. 

Their cases were heard in the magistrates’ courts in Cardiff, Newport, Northampton, and Bradford.

Here’s a round-up of the cases.

NIGEL BATT, 47, of Station Street in Barry, was disqualified from driving for two separate offences of speeding in 20mph limits.

He was fined £220 for each offence at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court, and was ordered to pay costs of £120 and a victim surcharge of £176.

Batt received three points on his licence for the first offence, and was banned from driving for six months after the second.

CURTIS LANG, 47, of Watson Street in Barry, was fined for using a vehicle without insurance.

At Cardiff Magistrates’ Court, he was fined £660 and disqualified from driving for six months. He was also ordered to pay costs of £120 and a victim surcharge of £264.

LUKE KILLIN, 36, of Highlight Lane in Barry, has been banned from driving for six months after refusing to identify a driver who was alleged to have been speeding in a 20mph limit.

At Newport Magistrates’ Court on March 11, Killin was fined £660 for failing to give information relating to the identification of a driver when required. He was also ordered to pay costs of £120 and a victim surcharge of £264.

FREDERICK PHIPPS-HARKUS, 41, of Jenkin Street in Barry, admitted speeding in a 30mph limit.

On March 12 at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court, he was fined £500 and ordered to pay costs of £120 and a surcharge of £200. His licence was endorsed with six penalty points.

GARETH HUDSON, 44, of Monmouth Way in Barry, admitted speeding in a 20mph limit.

Hudson was fined £40, with £120 costs and a £16 victim surcharge, and had four penalty points added to his licence at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court.

RICHARD ALLAN COLLINS, 39, of Wenvoe Terrace in Barry, admitted keeping a vehicle that did not meet insurance requirements.

He was fined £147 at Northampton Magistrates’ Court, and was ordered to pay costs of £100 and a surcharge of £59.

LUKE EVANS, of Meirion Close in Barry, was fined for keeping an untaxed vehicle.

At Bradford Magistrates’ Court, he was fined £220 and ordered to pay back duty of £65.84 and costs of £85.
