St Nicholas CiW Primary School was described as a place where ‘pupils feel safe, valued and respected’ and ‘a warm, inclusive and nurturing community’ in a recent education inspection.
The report credited strong leadership and a clear vision as key to the school’s positive culture and high expectations for both pupils and staff.
Elizabeth Jones, director of learning and skills at Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: “I’d like to pass on my congratulations to St Nicholas CiW Primary School for its excellent Estyn inspection result.
“This is testament to the hard work of staff and pupils, supported by parents and carers.”
Inspectors highlighted the school’s rich and engaging curriculum, which nurtures independence and creativity while developing knowledge and skills.
Pupils are encouraged to think imaginatively, work collaboratively, and persevere.
Standout strengths included digital competence, mathematical understanding, and creativity.
Clare Werrett, head of education for the Dioceses of Llandaff and Monmouth, said: “This excellent report reflects the hard work and commitment of the staff at St Nicholas, the richness of their curriculum and the wonderful variety of learning experiences enjoyed by all their pupils.

The school’s promotion of an anti-racist culture was also commended, with pupils encouraged to challenge stereotypes and learn about diversity.
Support for children with additional learning needs was described as effective, and behaviour across the school was judged ‘exemplary.’
