Four events to enjoy in Penarth over the next week

This Ain’t Texas Festival

Enjoy a ‘full-on Americana Country and Western experience’ at Sully Sports & Social Club, where there will be live country tribute acts, line dancing, American BBQ, whiskey stalls, axe throwing, and plenty of hands-on activities. The festival is designed to be welcoming and relaxed, making it a great option for families or friends looking for something fun and different. There are interactive activities and a funfair (charges apply), with a ‘family-friendly festival layout’ and spaced areas to move or relax. The festival takes place on May 16, from 12pm.

Hadestown

Cardiff West Advanced Seniors bring the folk opera Hadestown to St Cyres Comprehensive School for a ‘deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience’. The show weaves the classic tales of Orpheus and Eurydice with King Hades and Persephone, set to American folk and New Orleans jazz-inspired music. Expect ‘a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back’. The performance is on May 17.

CWGC War Graves Week Tour 2026 – Penarth Cemetery

Join the Commonwealth War Graves Commission for a free, guided walk led by an experienced volunteer, exploring stories of local service personnel and their families. The tour covers ‘the graves of service personnel from the Army, Air Force, Merchant Navy and Home Guard spanning both wars’. Tours depart from the old clock tower by the chapel. The event happens on May 16 at 2pm.

PCS – Guided Walk – Penarth Docks

Alan leads this annual walking tour, a follow-up to his AGM presentation, covering the history of Penarth Docks as part of Penarth’s Shipping & Seafront History Series. Meet at Cogan railway station and book tickets through the Penarth Civic Society website. The walk sets off on May 17 at 2pm.
