The West Country‑based café‑bar group has announced that the Morio Lounge will create around 30 new jobs for Barry locals, once the bar opens this summer.
Originally scheduled to open earlier this week, its opening was pushed back to June 3 – giving builders an extra three weeks to complete the finishing touches and work to transform the disused former toilet block at Nell’s Point into a spacious and luxurious space.
Loungers say that the Morio Lounge will be “open all day, every day,” serving breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and drinks, with dedicated kids’, gluten‑free and vegan menus.
The design team are using the extra time to the extended opening date to transform the space into a warm and eclectic “home from home” – something they call their “signature style.”

The Morio Lounge aims to offer a welcoming space for regular meetups, business catch ups, book clubs, knitting groups, parent-and-baby sessions, creative workshops, and many other community groups that may be looking for an alternative space to host their meetups.
Local groups who are looking for a friendly and flexible venue are encouraged to get in touch with the Morio Lounge.
Matt Birch, general manager of Morio Lounge, said: “We’re counting down the days until we can welcome everyone to Morio Lounge on Wednesday 3rd June. We’re committed to being a true part of the community, and we can’t wait to meet our neighbours and get involved locally.
“If you’re looking for a friendly, flexible space for events or group meet‑ups, drop in once we’re open. We’d love to chat and see what we can do.”
The name ‘Morio’ – meaning ‘sea’ – is a nod to the Lounge’s location overlooking the sands of Whitmore Bay, giving customers a stunning location to enjoy whatever the reason for their visit.
Loungers say that the Morio Lounge’s all-day menu will “cater for every taste”, with everything from hearty comfort food to healthier choices and indulgent treats available.
They also say that families are a “major focus”, with games, books, colouring materials, highchairs and baby‑changing facilities available for youngsters.
