PS Waverley returned to the Bristol Channel and South West Wales on 26 May, with a packed timetable of day, afternoon and evening cruises running until 17 June.
The Clyde‑built vessel made her first Penarth calls of the season on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 May, drawing crowds to the Esplanade as she steamed in and out of the pier.
However, this week’s sailings have been disrupted. Waverley’s cruise on Wednesday 3 June has been cancelled because of strong winds, with forecasts showing speeds above 25 knots and gusts beyond 35 knots in the Bristol Channel.
Thursday’s sailing has also been called off for the same reason, with operators stressing the decision has been taken in the interests of the safety of the ship, passengers and crew.
All passengers with pre‑booked tickets for the cancelled days are being contacted and offered the chance to transfer to another date this season or request a refund.
On the website the company has thanked customers for their support and understanding, acknowledging the disappointment for those who had hoped to sail this week.
Despite the setbacks, there are still several opportunities for local passengers to step aboard from Penarth in the coming days.
The 2026 timetable includes a series of trips round the Holm Islands, North Devon and Exmoor coasts, Lundy Island and the River Severn, with Penarth acting as a key embarkation point alongside Clevedon, Weston‑super‑Mare, Swansea, Porthcawl and other ports.
Waverley’s 2026 programme is part of what operators describe as her longest operational season in more than a decade, with the ship visiting regions around the UK from May to October.
