Motorists are facing more than a week of disruption as a major road in west Wales is set to close for 10 hours a day so that essential resurfacing work can be carried out.
Different sections of the A40 in Carmarthenshire will shut overnight over a nine-day period starting from Monday. Work will be carried out on the trunk road between Abergwili on the edge of Carmarthen and Nantgaredig on the way to Llandeilo.
It will take place over the course of seven nights between June 8 and June 17, between the hours of 8pm and 6pm.
The sections affected are a stretch between Abergwili roundabout and Whitemill, and then a further stretch heading east towards Nantgaredig. Stay informed on Carms news by signing up to our newsletter here.
The road will be shut in both directions between Abergwili and Whitemill for three nights – June 8, 9, and 10.
The section between Whitemill and Nantgaredig will then be shut for four nights – June 11, 12, 15, and 16. The weekend in between – Saturday, June 13, and Sunday, June 14 – will not be affected by the planned roadworks.
A spokeswoman for Traffic Wales, which operates on behalf of the Welsh Government, which is responsible for trunk roads, said: “Work will be carried out over the course of seven nights between June 8 and June 17 from 8pm to 6am under a full carriageway closure.
“Resurfacing works will extend from Abergwili roundabout towards White Mill for approximately 1.5km and further east from White Mill towards Nantgaredig for 1.7km. The work will be carried out during the night under a full carriageway closure.
“The main alternative route for eastbound vehicles is utilising the A48 from Pensarn roundabout towards M4 junction 49 Pont Abraham roundabout and north along the A483 towards Llandeilo where the A40 can be rejoined.
“The route will be vice versa for westbound travelling vehicles. The works are being carried out using a full carriageway closure to ensure the safety of the workforce and the travelling public.”
