DJ Seinfeld’s new album feels like a crisp summer’s evening, melancholic and beautiful. Two adjectives which might not be typically associated with a breakbeat-infused album, yet the Swedish producer’s lyrics add a deeply personal layer to the electronic beats as he explores letting go of the past.
Take Of Joy and its gloomy couplet, “We were broken but smiling / And I’ve never felt so alone.” As standalone songs, the lyrics tell tales you can really get behind and relate to; I struggled to follow the storyline of acceptance chronologically throughout the album, though.
Despite its moodiness, the album still manages to excite and energise: its tempo builds as it progresses, and the lo-fi house style that backgrounds DJ Seinfeld’s storytelling relaxes and uplifts. This combination of poetic lyrics and an ambient backdrop makes the album perfect for any mood – whether you’re winding down or livening up, DJ Seinfeld will match your vibe.
