In a short statement, a Vue spokesperson said the cinema would close “later this month” and that the company was consulting with its “Cardiff colleagues, who are our priority”, while continuing in the meantime to offer customers “the very best big screen experience”.
The venue, located next to the Principality Stadium and a short train ride from Penarth, has long been a popular choice for town residents and families across the Vale thanks to its central location and seven‑screen set‑up.
The closure will reduce the choice of mainstream cinema screens easily reached from Penarth, with Everyman in Cardiff Bay and the community‑run cinema at Penarth Pier Pavilion among the main remaining options for local film‑goers.
Vue has not given a specific final trading date or said whether any jobs could be transferred to other sites, but said staff were being consulted as part of the closure process.
Local cinema fans now face a decision over where to switch their custom, with some likely to head to Cardiff Bay while others may opt for smaller community screenings in Penarth itself.
