Council to open Wellbeing Hub in Thompson Street, Barry

by David Jones

Located on Thompson Street in Barry, the centre will support adults with care and support needs by offering integrated health and social care services in a single, accessible setting.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council has acquired three commercial units on the street for the hub using Welsh Government funding.

Councillor Eddie Williams, cabinet member for health and social care, said: “This development’s central town location will make it easier for people to access the support they need, leading to improved outcomes.

“It is an example of the council’s collaborative approach, in which we work with partner organisations to deliver the best provision possible for our residents.”

Developed in partnership with Cardiff and Vale and Swansea Bay health boards, the hub will form part of broader regeneration efforts in Barry.

Councillor Williams said: “Having different services in one place will create an integrated, holistic approach that is more efficient and will provide better care.

“The project is part of wider regeneration work taking place in Barry and will help bring space that was previously empty back into use.”

He also highlighted plans for the old Wilko building on Holton Road are progressing to being the building back into use, as well as increased cleaning taking place through the street scene service.

Design work is already under way, and the council plans to submit a funding application to the Welsh Government for the internal refit.

Further updates will be shared once plans are finalised.
