King’s Baton Relay

Kick off the celebrations early with the King’s Baton Relay arriving at Whitmore Bay beach on Barry Island seafront. Expect plenty of atmosphere as Gwen the Dragon and Stormy Stan join in the fun, with the baton arriving by sea and a big Welsh welcome planned for all. A representative for Barry Dock RNLI said: “This is a proud moment not only for Barry Dock RNLI, but for Wales, and we’re delighted to be leading this part of the relay during our 125th anniversary year.” Join the festivities on June 19 from 8.30am.

Bavarian Night 

The Mayor of Barry’s Bavarian Night promises live music from the Just Cheese Oompah Band at Millwood Bowling Club. Expect classic polkas, waltzes, and modern pop covers with a brassy twist. There’s a buffet, raffle, and fancy dress is encouraged. Tickets are £25 each plus booking fee, with proceeds in aid of the charities chosen by the Mayor of Barry and the Chair of Dinas Powys Community Council. The fun starts June 19 from 7.30pm.

Silent Disco

For something different, the Ecstatic Dance Cardiff Summer Solstice Silent Disco takes place outdoors at the Coed Hills Rural Arts Space. Enjoy a barefoot ecstatic dance in the stone circle to DJ Gypsee’s ‘high-energy, expansive, soft, flowy & groovy DJ set’ as the sun sets. Enjoy ceremonial cacao on arrival and delicious food throughout. Open to all, with tickets £23 (£15 concessions). Doors open June 19 at 5pm.

Fleetwood Mac Tribute

Enjoy the weekend at Memo Arts Centre with Seven Wonders: The Spirit of Fleetwood Mac on June 20 at 7.30pm. This 7-piece, 100 per cent live band play all the classics for fans to sing and dance to. Audience members have shared: “I didn’t expect to feel like I was watching Fleetwood Mac… amazing vocals and band” and “absolutely fantastic band, the best tribute I’ve ever seen”. Tickets are £26.50 or £23.50 for concessions.
