The former sprint hurdler, who grew up in Cardiff and remains a familiar face on television, dropped into the seafront venue in June, around six months after it reopened following a major remodel.

Diners may remember our first look at the “country classic” makeover last year, which praised its crackling fires, rustic interiors and impressive beer garden.
Our visit last year praised the Captain’s Wife’s impressive refurbishment and cosy, ‘country classic’ feel, with standout starters and desserts, but found some of the mains and the wine list a little underwhelming.

Now the pub is looking to make the most of the warmer months, unveiling a series of offers designed to tempt locals and visitors back through the doors.

A new Weekend Treat menu offers three courses for £32.50, running from 5pm on Fridays and all day on Saturdays, giving customers a chance to sample starters, mains and desserts from the pub’s updated kitchen in one sitting.

Alongside the food offer, the Captain’s Wife is also running “Fizz Fridays”, with 25 per cent off selected bottles of fizz.
The deal is aimed at groups looking to celebrate special occasions – or simply enjoy a glass of bubbles with a sea view – at the popular spot on the coast path between Penarth and Sully.
The pub’s operators say the summer promotions build on the success of the refurbishment, which transformed the venue into a cosy, characterful space with an upgraded outdoor area ready for long evenings overlooking the water.
With a high-profile visitor already through the door and new menus in place, The Captain’s Wife will be hoping for another strong season as locals look for somewhere to eat, drink and make the most of the seaside setting, whether that’s for a special occasion, a midweek treat or a post‑walk drink after exploring the nearby coast path.
