Farm Foods, Farmers Pantry in Llantwit Major, and Penycae Inn near Swansea were named large, medium, and small employer of the year respectively at the Cambrian Training Company awards, recognising their achievements in apprenticeship programmes.

Faith O’Brien, managing director of Cambrian Training Company, said: “These employers demonstrate the difference strong apprenticeship partnerships can make.

“Their achievements are truly inspiring.

“By nurturing talent, building clear progression routes and embracing innovation they are strengthening their workforces and helping secure the future of their industries.”

The awards, organised by the Welshpool-based work-based learning provider and its partners, celebrate employers, learners, and practitioners excelling in programmes delivered across Wales.

Farm Foods was recognised for its apprenticeship scheme that develops staff in customer service, stock control, compliance, and leadership.

Farmers Pantry, based in Llantwit Major, was praised for overcoming industry skills shortages by training butchers and technical staff in-house.

Rhodri Davies, owner of Farmers Pantry Butchers, said: “This award is a reflection of the hard work, commitment and dedication shown by every member of our team.”

Dawie Beyers, operations manager, said: “We have worked closely with Cambrian Training for many years and greatly value the support, guidance and expertise they provide.”

Penycae Inn was celebrated for its inclusive apprenticeship programme, which has developed talent in all areas of the business, including a new hotel.

Its front-of-house waiter, Aaron Jones, also won Apprentice of the Year.

Anthony Christopher, who co-owns Penycae Inn with his wife Claire said: “The award is lovely recognition for the years training staff but we could not have achieved this without our young people.”

Twenty-seven finalists competed for the awards, with three shortlisted in each of the nine categories.
