The RSPCA has highlighted a group of animals currently in its care who share names with some of 2025’s most popular baby names—including Olivia, Leo, and Arthur—in the hope that a little extra attention might lead them to their forever families.
Dr Samantha Gaines, head of the RSPCA’s companion animals department, said: “Our centre staff couldn’t help but notice that with names like Olivia, Leo and Arthur topping the baby name charts this year, we have some incredibly special namesakes of our own who are still waiting for their perfect match.
“Whether you are looking for a gentle giant, a playful pup, or a quiet companion, our rescue animals have so much love to give.
“We hope the spotlight on these popular names will inspire people to open their hearts and homes to these beautiful animals who deserve a second chance at a happy ending.
“Anyone who thinks they could offer the right home to one of these pets will be able to speak to our experienced staff to ensure they’re a good match for each other.”
Thousands of animals are currently waiting for homes in RSPCA centres across the UK, and many of them share names with those topping the latest Office for National Statistics baby name list.
Among them is four-month-old kitten Olivia, currently being cared for by the RSPCA Cheshire (Altrincham) branch.
She was rescued alongside her siblings from a multi-cat household and is described as a ‘free spirit’ who enjoys lounging on her cat tree and observing the world from a distance.
In Cambridgeshire, one-year-old rabbit Lily is looking for a new home with her best friend, Lavender.
The pair—rescued from a multi-animal home—are closely bonded and love to snuggle, explore, and share cabbage leaves.
Two-year-old cob Isla is being cared for at RSPCA Leybourne in Kent.
She is described as an ‘independent’ pony who can be strong-willed but is handleable with patience and care.
Staffordshire bull terrier Flo, 11, is at the RSPCA’s Longview Animal Centre in Lancashire.
She is described as sweet and affectionate and is searching for a home where she can be the only pet.
Five-year-old lurcher Poppy is at Blackberry Farm Animal Centre in Buckinghamshire.
She is described as a nervous but affectionate dog who would thrive in a calm and patient home.
In Newport, young cat Ivy is being cared for at the RSPCA Newport Adoption Centre.
She will need a quiet and understanding environment to flourish.
Two-year-old collie cross Leo is at Brent Knoll in Somerset.
He was rescued with welfare concerns and is described as lively, playful, and full of potential.
Arthur, another two-year-old, is a laid-back domestic shorthaired cat at RSPCA Northumberland West Branch.
He loves company and spends most of his time indoors.
Danaher Animal Home in Essex is caring for two dogs with chart-topping names.
Two-year-old lurcher George is waiting for his loving home.
Three-year-old Staffie-cross Oscar is also looking for his forever family.
Six-month-old Theodore is being cared for in Bath.
Two-year-old French bulldog Freddie is at the Stubbington Ark in Hampshire.
