Libraries across the Vale of Glamorgan are taking part in the scheme, which aims to keep children reading throughout the summer holidays.
This year’s theme is Read to the Beat and promises a season full of stories, creativity and fun.
Rhiannon Birch, Vale of Glamorgan Council’s cabinet member for education, arts and the Welsh language, said: “It is fantastic to see the Summer Reading Challenge return once again to libraries across the Vale of Glamorgan.
“This year’s theme, Read to the Beat, offers children an exciting opportunity to discover the power of music through books, inspiring creativity while encouraging a love of reading.
“We hope that all children in the Vale discover the magic of new stories through the Summer Reading Challenge, sparking a lifelong love of reading, learning and imagination.
“Every child should have the opportunity to explore their interests, build their confidence and experience the many benefits that reading can bring in a supportive, welcoming and enthusiastic environment.
“We are proud that our libraries across the Vale provide that opportunity, helping young people develop skills, broaden their horizons and enjoy reading for pleasure.”
Children can pick up a free activity pack, take part in music-themed events and discover specially selected books to enjoy over the summer break.
Some of this year’s featured titles include The Paper Piano, the story of Noah, who wishes to play piano and crafts his own out of paper, and Melody Queen, which follows Simi as she follows her passions to become a musician by overcoming challenges.
Vale libraries will also host a variety of family-friendly activities, including Author Talks, Coding Challenges and hands-on Music Maker Sessions.
Children can visit their nearest library or browse online to get started and stay up to date with reading goals throughout the summer.
