A medical emergency was declared aboard a Ryanair aircraft shortly after it departed Birmingham Airport.
Flight FR661 was en route to Dublin when a medical incident is understood to have occurred. The aircraft, which took off from BHX at 8.37am on Sunday (July 26), was subsequently granted priority landing clearance.
The crew had transmitted the emergency squawk code 7700, the universal transponder code used by pilots to signal a general emergency. According to AirLive trackers, the aircraft was approximately 8,000 feet above the Irish Sea when the emergency code was broadcast, reports Birmingham Live.
The plane subsequently touched down safely on Runway 28L at Dublin Airport, roughly 40 minutes after leaving Birmingham. Emergency ground crews were positioned and ready to meet the aircraft upon its arrival.
