RNLI Penarth Lifeboat Station was paged at 3.07pm following reports that two people were cut off by the tide.
The Atlantic 85 was launched and reached Sully Island.
They were then stood down after coastguard teams safely escorted the individuals.
The lifeboat returned to the station and got ready for its next service.
A spokesperson for RNLI Penarth Lifeboat Station said: “Our crew were paged at 15.07 in response to reports of two people cut off by the tide.
“Our Atlantic 85 launched and reached Sully Island before being stood down, as local HM Coastguard – South and West Wales units had escorted the casualties to safety.
“Our volunteers were able to return to station and prepare the lifeboat for its next service”.
