The town’s first ever street art festival was organised by Hurts So Good and Mack Events and was funded through the Barry Neighbourhoods Board as part of the UK Government’s Pride in Place programme.
The free weekend brought together some of the UK’s best street artists for a vibrant programme of live artwork, graffiti battles, music, fashion and independent traders.
Some incredible pieces of art were created over the weekend, including some by world renown street artist Tristan Eaton alongside Cardiff artist Rmer One – Ceri and Kyle from Hurts So Good told the Barry and District News: “In the graffiti world, its like if Ronaldo came to Barry.”
This globally famous artist in particular has Welsh roots and the mural he created in Barry is his first in Wales, adding an extra level of importance to the festival. Visitors to the festival were able to watch him create the artwork in real time – a special treat for many.
Now, after an opening night festival in which attendees got to witness the UK premiere of a new documentary, Paint Worx has taken to the former Wilko building on Holton Road for a limited time.
This space is the perfect place to display these huge pieces of art, giving enough room and natural light to truly appreciate the time, effort and skill that has gone into each sheet of plyboard.
It has brought the space to life once again, breathing some life and colour into this huge unit.
Not only does this exhibition give the chance to experience a different kind of art than the “traditional” mediums, but it also offers a chance to learn about the history of street art and its roots in Wales and Barry.
The Paint Worx exhibition will be able to view for free (with no booking required) in the former Wilko until Friday, September 11, from 10am to 3pm.
