We learnt last week that when the Reform group first met in the Senedd, they set up their group constitution. While Dan Thomas was appointed by Nigel Farage, that constitution said, it would be the Senedd group who decided the new leader.
The party said that if there was no contest, then the new leader would be appointed but even if there needed to be a vote, it would be of group members, not the wider party and they wanted a new leader in place by the end of the month.
We know that James Evans, the Brycheiniog Tawe Nedd MS and former Tory MS, ruled himself out despite claiming he had the support of the “majority” of the group. He said he didn’t think a leadership contest was in anyone’s best interests.
We understand the group have met this morning.
