Santander UK made an announcement on Wednesday
Santander UK has made a fresh announcement today. On Wednesday, the bank revealed the full list of 31 branches set to undergo a makeover in 2026, as part of its £17 million branch investment programme this year.
Alongside the branches earmarked for refurbishment, the bank is also opening new Work Café sites, including Kingston, Birmingham and Belfast, in addition to its most recent Canary Wharf location, which opened in May 2026. The 2026 programme follows the renovation of a further 52 branches in 2025, Santander confirmed. By the close of the year, more than 80% of Santander branches will have been updated, it added.
Franz McCoy, head of branch interactions at Santander UK, said: “Investing in our branches reflects our commitment to helping customers bank with us in a way that suits them, whether that’s face-to-face in branch, via one of our state-of-the-art Work Cafes, or using our digital or over the phone service. We’re proud to be there to support our customers however they wish to bank.”
Santander stated that branches took an average of just over two weeks to be refurbished, during which time the branch would be temporarily closed and customers directed to their nearest alternative branch or Post Office, as well as digital channels to assist with their banking requirements.
It added: “When the branch re-opens, customers will be welcomed into their revamped branch to see the new look and features, ranging from refreshed seating, interaction spaces, new meeting rooms for extra privacy, more ATMs and safe spaces to be used by anyone experiencing domestic or financial abuse to seek help.”

Santander confirmed that the dates listed from September onwards represent the estimated month in which the refurbishment work is due to take place and remain subject to change. The bank added that the precise features of each branch refurbishment will differ from location to location.
