Staff were told about the plans at the broadcaster’s Cardiff headquarters on Thursday. They form part of wider BBC plans to save £500 million across the corporation.
BBC Wales said the loss of 45 posts will affect more employees because some roles are shared or part-time.
Twenty jobs will go from the newsroom, with most expected to be lost through voluntary redundancy. Two newsroom posts are expected to be made compulsorily redundant.
BBC Wales and Wales Business Operations aim to save around £9 million in 2027-28, with further cuts expected in the following financial year.
The changes will reduce output as well as staffing.
BBC Wales said around 20 hours of television content will no longer be produced. Several radio programmes will also be removed from schedules.
Live weather forecasts on Radio Wales will end from January. This follows the announcement that lead forecaster Derek Brockway will leave his role after almost three decades.
Radio Cymru will lose several programmes, including daily news and current affairs programme Dros Ginio and the Saturday edition of Dros Frecwast.
Ar y Marc, a football programme broadcast for 35 years, will also be dropped.
Radio Wales schedules will also be revised after veteran broadcaster Roy Noble leaves next spring. Lynn Bowles’ Sunday programme will end, and commissioned content across the station will be reduced.
Public tours of the BBC’s headquarters at Central Square in Cardiff will cease.
The National Union of Journalists has raised concerns about the effect of continued cuts on journalism and local broadcasting services.
The savings target for 2027-28 is expected to be followed by further reductions in the next financial year.
Most newsroom reductions are expected to be voluntary, but the two compulsory redundancies are part of the announced total.
The broadcaster said the changes reflect the need to reduce spending while continuing to provide services for audiences in Wales.
However, the plans mean changes to television, radio, weather coverage and public access to the Cardiff headquarters.
The announcement follows changes elsewhere in the BBC as it seeks to meet its savings programme and respond to changing audience habits.
BBC Wales is one of Wales’s biggest media organisations, and the cuts are likely to prompt debate about the future of public service broadcasting and journalism.
