Rhoose Boxing Club, founded by the late Royal Navy veteran Peter Anthony, has long been a cornerstone of Rhoose and the surrounding communities, helping young people build confidence, discipline, and boxing skills.
Mr Anthony, who served in the Battle of the Atlantic at just 17, established the club after the Second World War, instilling values of respect, resilience, and self-belief that continue to shape its members today.
Michael Smyth now leads the club, having been trained by Mr Anthony himself, and is committed to carrying forward the philosophy and passion of his mentor.
He said: “The next generation starts here. Whether you dream of becoming a champion, representing Wales, or simply want to improve your fitness, confidence, and character, Rhoose Boxing Club welcomes you.”
Mr Anthony’s words still guide the club’s approach: “We can’t all be champions, but you will learn life’s lessons and be a better person for it.”
The club believes boxing is about more than success in the ring, focusing on personal development and lifelong values.
Young people from Rhoose and the surrounding areas are encouraged to join and take part in the club’s proud tradition.
