Contractors are continuing a large-scale project to stabilise the escarpment next to the park, with cherry pickers, netting and specialist teams now clearly visible from the marina below and Paget Road above.

The work follows the controversial removal of trees and vegetation from the site earlier this year. The clearance dramatically changed the appearance of the hillside and sparked debate among residents, with some lamenting the loss of greenery while others welcomed the newly opened views across Cardiff Bay.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council previously said the tree clearance formed part of a wider slope stabilisation scheme designed to ensure the long-term safety of the area.

As the project progresses, passers-by can now see crews securing the escarpment and installing protective netting to help prevent future land movement.

A spokesperson for the Vale of Glamorgan Council said: “Paget Road Park remains temporarily closed to enable the safe completion of essential Penarth escarpment stabilisation works.

“These works are progressing well and are an important part of ensuring the long-term safety and stability of the area.

“We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding while the project is carried out, and completion is currently anticipated in early 2027.”
