Santa’s Cause, now in its fifth year, is led by the Vale of Glamorgan Council and calls on businesses, organisations, and residents to help make Christmas brighter for those supported by the council’s social services teams.
The campaign aims to ensure that every child supported by the Council’s Social Services teams has a gift to open on Christmas Day.
Since its launch in 2022, Santa’s Cause has delivered thousands of gifts to children and young people across the Vale, thanks to the generosity of local people, businesses, community groups and Council staff.
Councillor Lis Burnett, leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: “The response to this campaign makes us incredibly proud.
“People give what they can, businesses get behind it, and our social services teams work hard to make sure those donations reach children and families who need them.
“For families already under financial pressure, Christmas can bring additional worries at a time that should be about spending time together and enjoying the festive season.”
The scheme not only collects gifts but also welcomes financial donations, which allow the Santa’s Cause team to shop for the specific items children have asked for, based on Christmas wish lists provided by Social Services teams.
This ensures each gift is personalised and meaningful.
Cllr Burnett said: “A gift chosen especially for a child can make a real difference and help bring some joy to their Christmas morning.
“Since Santa’s Cause began, thousands of gifts have been given to children across the Vale.
“We hope that, with the continued support of our wonderful community, we can reach every child supported by our teams again this year.”
She also highlighted the power of community spirit.
Cllr Burnett said: “We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who gets behind Santa’s Cause.
“It is a lovely reminder of what can happen when a community comes together to support one another.”
The council is encouraging businesses and organisations to get involved again this year.
