‘A beautiful hotel in the most peaceful valley. The staff were wonderful and the breakfasts delicious. Loved every minute of my stay’
Holidaymakers who fancy swapping a few days at home for a destination with “breathtaking” beaches and “spectacular” coastal views at every turn can book a getaway at a luxury hotel this autumn. Hand Picked Hotels has launched a special offer on short stays at its hotels in the Channel Islands which promise to take mini-breaks to the next level.
The Amber Hours: Autumn By The Sea packages are available to book at hotels in Jersey and Guernsey until November 30, spelling the perfect time to see a quieter side of the picturesque islands bathed in the changing colours of autumn. Guests staying for one night at these hotels will receive a complimentary room upgrade, as well as breakfast for two and Autumn Champagne Afternoon Tea, and those taking advantage of the offer for two nights or more will also be treated to a three-course autumn dinner for two.
While there are no direct flights available to the Channel Islands from Cardiff Airport, there are from Bristol Airport. British Airways and Loganair offer flights from Bristol to Jersey, while Aurigny provides flights to Guernsey, with prices starting from £67 each way.

Clifftop hotel above ‘turquoise waters’
For those who are yet to visit the Channel Islands, Guernsey is a popular choice among holidaymakers year-round, with Visit Guernsey writing: “The turquoise waters and an abundance of nature reserves make Guernsey a great place to enjoy the outdoors, whether you are exploring the cliffs and beaches or out on the water itself. The Islands of Guernsey also boast a rich heritage and culture to discover, from neolithic structures, castles and fortifications from the Occupation to art galleries, museums and guided tours.”
A Hand Picked Hotels Amber Hours break is available at the Fermain Valley Hotel. Located a 15-minute drive or 20-minute bus away from Guernsey Airport, this hotel is perched on a clifftop above Guernsey’s southeast coast for spectacular views and offers a variety of dining options between its steakhouse, Mexican restaurant and tea rooms.

Ocean view rooms and an indoor heated pool
Also in Guernsey is St Pierre Park Hotel, which is 10 minutes by car or 50 minutes by public transport from Guernsey Airport. Home to an award-winning spa and nine-hole golf course, the grounds of this hotel are home to a picturesque lake and gardens, with master suites offering guests their own private garden and hot tub.
For more places to stay in Guernsey, the two joint best-rated hotels based on reviews on Tripadvisor are La Barbarie Hotel and Best Western Hotel de Havelet. La Barbarie is set in a quiet wooded valley above Saints Bay, while Hotel de Havelet is a Georgian hilltop house on the outskirts of St Peter Port.
Jersey is another choice loved by travellers, with Visit Jersey telling visitors: “Jersey may be just nine by five miles, but it’s bursting with things to do. Explore majestic Mont Orgueil Castle, the Jersey War Tunnels and scenic hikes with breathtaking views. Indulge in local flavours at beachside cafés, sip sunset cocktails or kayak along the stunning coastline.”
One place to book an Amber Hours retreat in Jersey is L’Horizon Beach Hotel & Spa, which is set beside the golden sands of St Brelade’s Bay and is just a 10-minute drive or 20-minute bus ride from Jersey Airport. Dating back to 1850, the terrace at this hotel boasts uninterrupted views across the beach, while spa facilities offer the chance to relax and unwind with a variety of treatments on offer.
There’s also the Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa, which is 15 minutes away by car or taxi from Jersey Airport or 20 minutes via public transport. Located on the edge of St Aubin’s Bay in St Helier, this five-star resort is just a stone’s throw away from many of Jersey’s main attractions, with bedrooms offering ocean views and an indoor heated pool, sauna and steam room to enjoy too.
Elsewhere in Jersey, the two top options on Booking.com according to visitor ratings are Longueville Manor and The Moorings Hotel & Restaurant. Longueville Manor is the only AA Five Red Star hotel in Jersey, with a restaurant that has also been awarded a coveted Michelin Key and 3 AA Rosettes, while The Moorings Hotel & Restaurant is a family-run bistro, café and cocktail bar with rooms that has been welcoming guests for nearly 200 years.
‘Beautiful hotel in the most peaceful valley’
Meanwhile, the Hand Picked Hotels across the Channel Islands have earned thousands of five-star reviews from guests on Expedia. One person said following a stay at the Fermain Valley Hotel: “A beautiful hotel in the most peaceful valley. The staff were wonderful and the breakfasts delicious. Loved every minute of my stay.”
Although one guest fed back: “The breakfast had wonderful cooked options. For those preferring a continental option, the choice was adequate but not extensive.”
Meanwhile, a visitor to St Pierre Park Hotel praised: “Really enjoyed the stay, the staff were very helpful and friendly, the restaurant food was very good, so we ended up eating in every evening. Rooms comfortable and clean. Would definitely recommend.”
And someone who stayed at L’Horizon Beach Hotel & Spa shared: “A truly beautiful property in a stunning location. Wonderful staff. The balcony beach view room was incredible and a joy to wake up to that view every day. Great bus facilities. Definitely will return.”
Not everyone awarded this hotel a perfect score, however, with a different reviewer commenting: “On one of the two breakfasts we had, it took a while to be allocated a table and service at the food area was a little disorganised with people waiting around for food to be replenished.”
Elsewhere, a 10/10 review for the Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa read: “We loved everything about this hotel. Perfect location to access the island. We had a lovely room with a great sea view. Breakfast was excellent with great quality and variety, but the best thing was that the staff were so welcoming and friendly – nothing was too much trouble. We will return for sure.”
