Car bursts into flames on M4

A vehicle fire brought the M4 in Bridgend to a standstill on Thursday afternoon. Footage taken shortly after 5pm today shows a car up in flames on the hard shoulder of the busy motorway as fire crews work at the scene.

The incident caused disruption for drivers travelling between Swansea and Cardiff during rush hour.

All lanes were closed for a short time eastbound until the fire was extinguished. Two lanes then reopened as emergency services recovered the damaged vehicle from the road.

At the time, traffic monitoring systems were reporting 30 minute delays for drivers travelling towards Cardiff and Newport.

Delays cleared by 6pm and traffic flow returned to normal.
