Ford Transit van driver Bradley Jones, 36, pleaded guilty to having 78 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.
The legal limit in Wales is 35 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.
Newport Magistrates’ Court heard how the offence occurred on April 10.
He was disqualified from driving for 19 months.
Jones, of Tennyson Road, Penarth was ordered to pay £253 in a fine, costs and a surcharge.
