The chimney stack at the former Aberthaw Power Station will be demolished in a controlled explosion on Friday, June 12 – weather and site conditions permitting.
Specialist teams will carry out the operation using explosives to ensure the structure comes down safely and with minimal impact on nearby communities.
Fonmon Castle has been set up as an official public viewing area, offering a safe vantage point away from the demolition zone, complete with visitor facilities and crowd management.
Those wishing to attend must register in advance.
A South Wales Police spokesperson said: “A controlled explosive demolition of the chimney stack at the former Aberthaw Power Station is scheduled to take place tomorrow morning (Friday, June 12).
“To ensure local roads remain clear, members of the public wishing to view the demolition are encouraged to use the designated viewing event at Fonmon Castle rather than travelling to roads and public areas surrounding the site.”

People are being urged not to gather on nearby roads or public spaces, as the site is only accessible via a limited road network that needs to remain clear for residents, contractors, and emergency services.
Police and trained personnel will be stationed at key access points, and diversions will be in place until the area is declared safe.
Those structures, which included a 230-metre-long turbine hall, were brought down on February 14.
The work forms part of wider redevelopment plans for the 500-acre site, led by CCR Energy Ltd.
Proposals include the creation of an Agri-Food Technology Innovation Hub and a low-carbon energy centre, supporting job growth, investment, and Wales’ net zero ambitions.
