Slow Stories is a collaboration between artist and writer Bette A. and musician and artist Brian Eno, with proceeds from sales going to the pair’s chosen charities. Those willing or able to splash out for its full art edition – limited to 444 copies, and priced at, yes, $444 – get a hardback book, a vinyl album featuring readings of The Endless House and The Other Village (two of the 16 stories featured in Bette A’s book) backed by instrumentals which find Eno in typically ambient fashion, and a numbered, painted panel created by both of the collaborators.
The only way to get a copy of the album and painting is to buy the bundle. Pricey yes, but worth splashing out on if you can, although the book itself will be available inside and outside of the bundle.
Bette A.’s short tales within this book take place in imagined locations, with characters who seem to be searching for something or dealing with change within these surreal stories. There is an emphasis on slowness here, and the combination of words and music leave one wishing that Eno had created atmospheric soundscapes for all of Bette A.’s vividly enchanting Slow Stories.
