Adrian Edros, 37, of Holton Road in Barry, appeared at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court charged with shoplifting and fraud by false representation.
Edros was accused of stealing 20 chocolate bars – valued at a total of £40 – from Spar in Penarth on February 22.
Days later, on February 25, the defendant was alleged to have dishonestly used another man’s bank card in Barry.
Edros pleaded guilty to both offences at the first hearing in the magistrates’ court.
The defendant had been subject to a two-year community order at the time, having been sentenced for six offences of shoplifting and one of common assault at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on December 15.
Those offences all took place in Penarth.
The court previously heard Edros stole an Igenix double hot plate from Wasons Hardware on August 11.
He also stole two packets of turkey mince, two packets of turkey sausages and four packs of turkey steaks from Sainsburys on October 19, before returning to the store two days later and stealing a case of bacon – worth £49.50.
Edros then swiped six lamb steaks and two bottles of cider from Spar on November 8, before raiding both the Post Office for batteries and several packets of marmite crisps and Tesco Express for a crate each of Strongbow dark fruits and Kopparberg cider on December 13.
The defendant was sentenced to four weeks each for the theft and the fraud. His community order was revoked and he was re-sentenced to eight weeks imprisonment for the assault and six thefts.
The total 16-week sentence was suspended for 18 months.
He must complete a 12-month alcohol treatment requirement with Dyfodol and 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days, and must pay £40 in compensation to Spar.
The defendant was also banned from entering Penarth town centre for 12 months.
