Barry karate instructor found not guilty of assaulting woman

Phillip Sedgmond, 48, of Nordale Rise, Barry was cleared of assault occasioning actual bodily harm after prosecutors offered no evidence against him.

He had denied any wrongdoing after being charged following an alleged incident on September 10, 2022 on Market Street.

At Cardiff Crown Court, the prosecution formally offered no evidence in the case.

As a result, a not guilty verdict was entered under Section 17 of the Criminal Justice Act 1967.

Following the decision, the defendant was formally discharged.

The case was heard before Judge Paul Hobson with Hywel Davies appearing for the prosecution and Thomas Stanway representing Mr Sedgmond.
