Parts of Cardiff Road and Palmerston Road were closed on Wednesday afternoon (June 24) while emergency services dealt with incident.
A joint investigation is now underway with the fire service.
A spokesperson for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “SWFRS received a call at approximately 3.09pm to reports of a domestic fire at Riverside Place, Barry.
“Crews, appliances, water bowsers, and an aerial hydraulic platform from Barry, Penarth, Ely, Cardiff Central, Maindee and Pontypridd attended the incident involving a fire on the first floor and roof space of a two-storey mid-terrace domestic property.
“The fire was extinguished using 45m jets, safety jets and breathing apparatus.
“The stop message was received around 5.54pm.

It appears that National Grid have attended the property to make sure it is safe.
When cannabis cultivations are found, they often involve illegal interference with the electricity supply – including meter tampering.

Neighbours believe that the house has long been empty, and there appear to have been no reports of anyone living at the address.
Residents also believe that the homes on either side of the property were fully evacuated during the emergency response.
Visible damage to the property includes severe destruction to the roof and missing windows.
