Johnson Sparkes, 29, of Dorset Avenue, Barry is alleged to have assaulted the complainant in the town last month on February 12.
He did not enter a plea after he appeared at Newport Magistrates’ Court.
The defendant’s case was committed to the crown court where he is due to appear on April 7.
Sparkes was remanded in custody.
