Johnson Sparkes, 29, of Dorset Avenue, Barry also denied at alternative charge of GBH without intent.
The allegations date from an incident on February 12.
He is due to stand trial on August 26 with the case expected to last three days.
Sparkes was remanded in custody after he appeared before Judge Christopher Felstead at Cardiff Crown Court.
