Victoria Taylor, 30, of Norwood Crescent in Barry, was jailed recently for three offences of shoplifting.

Taylor stole food worth £131.50 from One Stop on Plas Cleddau in Barry on January 31.

She then took £40.70 of food from the same shop on February 2, and £32.97 of food from Co-op on Colcot Road in Barry that same day.

The defendant pleaded guilty to all three offences.

Cardiff Magistrates’ Court heard Taylor had a history of regularly targeting shops in Barry and Penarth.

Taylor was jailed for a total of 16 weeks, and was ordered to pay compensation of £172.20 to One Stop and £32.97 to Co-op.

Following these convictions, Taylor was issued with a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order.

The court heard the Criminal Behaviour Order was necessary to protect the community, local workers, and members of the public from continued distress, disruption and harm.

Shopworkers have described Taylor as being aggressive and threatening when challenged, and her actions have also caused shops considerable financial losses.

PC Adrian Muscat, anti-social behaviour co-ordinator at South Wales Police, said: “South Wales Police work closely with retailers and businesses to protect them from crime and anti-social behaviour committed by individuals like Victoria Taylor.

“Taylor’s behaviour has caused persistent and continuous harassment and distress to the communities of Barry and Penarth.”

As part of the Criminal Behaviour Order, imposed at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on February 26, Taylor is banned from: Any Tesco store in Barry and Penarth, Any One Stop Shop in Barry, Co-op on Colcot Road, Home Bargains on Palmerston Road, and Asda in Waterfront Retail Park.

Taylor must also not display any disorderly, threatening or abusive behaviour within any retail shops in Barry and Penarth, and must leave shops when instructed to do so.

Breaching the order is a criminal offence punishable by prison and/or a fine.

A South Wales Police spokesperson said this is the latest success comes following a new wider approach to shoplifting and anti-social behaviour by officers in Cardiff and The Vale of Glamorgan.

Anyone who witnesses any breaches or incidents should reported this to the police, they said.
