Originally airing 38 years ago in 1988, it was first hosted by Angela Ekaette, with several others following in its original run until 2001.

In 2023, it was announced that ITV had commissioned a revival of the game show to air on ITV1 and ITVX in January 2024, with Graham Norton as the new presenter.

After its first revival series in January 2024, further series aired in December 2024 and December 2025.

Now, it has been renewed for a fourth series, according to TV Zone UK.

In each show, contestants compete to solve word puzzles, similar to those used in Hangman, to win up to £50,000.

The title refers to the show’s giant carnival wheel that contestants spin throughout the course of the game to determine their cash and/or prizes.

The gameshow is based on the American show of the same name created by Merv Griffin.

The original run aired over 13 years with more than 700 episodes.

Other than its first host, Angela Ekaette, others included Carol Smillie, Nicky Campbell, Jenny Powell, John Leslie and Bradley Walsh.

Slight tweaks have been made to the original series in the revival, such as in the latest series, the “Wild Card” space is on the wheel from round one.

As well as this, a new “Bankrupt” shield has been added, potentially saving players’ current round score and keeping control of the wheel.

All episodes of the revival of Wheel of Fortune with Graham Norton are available to watch on ITVX.

ITV to revive popular gameshow 28 years since it last aired

ITV is also set to bring back another popular gameshow, Name That Tune, nearly three decades since it last appeared on TV.

Game show Name That Tune began in the mid-1950s, originating in the United States on NBC Radio in 1952.

It sees contestants pitted against each other as their music knowledge is put to the test.

The British version first aired on UK TV back in 1976 but was eventually dropped from the ITV schedules in 1988.

In 1997, the series was revived on Channel 5 with Jools Holland as the host for two series in 1997 and 1998.

The new series, set to be hosted by Alison Hammond, will be its first return to television since then.

It will see contestants go up against each other as their music knowledge is put to the test in a series of fast-paced rounds.

Alison said:  “I grew up absolutely loving the original show, so being part of this now feels like a real full-circle moment.

“I cannot wait to get into the studio, put the contestants through their paces, and see who really knows their music.

“Bigger, louder, and more feel-good than ever, this is going to be EPIC!”
