BBC Wales weather reporter at Penarth to visit gardens

The volunteer gardening group, known as FIGS, were delighted to welcome HTV Wales weather reporter Ruth Dodsworth and her team to the popular seafront gardens, where Ruth broadcast live to the studio in Cardiff.

The gardens were described by Ruth Dodsworth as a ‘slice of Italy here in South Wales’ – praise that reflects the affection the gardens hold within the community.

HTV Wales reached out with a request to broadcast in the gardens, inspired by the venue’s centenary celebration, after the original rendezvous had to be postponed due to inclement weather.

In preparation, footage of the gardens and the esplanade was taken by the TV crew to complement the broadcast.

The camera-shy need not have worried, as Ruth Dodsworth put everyone at ease while preparing for the live session, before she interviewed Mark Robinson, leader of FIGS.

Mark shared insights about the Italian Garden’s name and the spell of warm weather we are enjoying before Ms Dodsworth launched into a detailed forecast for Cardiff and the Vale.

The garden’s centenary celebrations will continue with a plant sale on Saturday, May 9, from 11 am to 1pm.

All the money raised will be spent on maintaining the Italian Gardens.
