Bethan Thomas looked sensational as she arrived at her wedding at Penarth Pier Pavilion, but it was her bridal party’s remarkable mode of transport – a public Transport for Wales train – that left guests truly stunned
A bride left her guests astonished by travelling to her wedding on a public train. Bethan Thomas, 37, caused a stir when she arrived for her big day on a Transport for Wales (TfW) service dressed in her full wedding gown and carrying her bouquet.
The Welsh bride-to-be and her entire bridal party travelled on the South Wales Metro to her ceremony at Penarth Pier Pavilion by taking the Coryton line from Birchgrove to Penarth.
Bethan was even allowed to sit in the driver’s seat and was presented with an oversized train ticket from the crew that read “congratulations Bethan and Chris”.
Bethan and her now-husband Chris Seddon, 38, are long-time users of the line and while planning their wedding the couple decided there was “no better way” to start the celebrations than by incorporating the service they use so frequently into their special day.
Bethan, who works as a statistician, said: “I know our guests were very surprised when they heard my plan, but TfW really made it special, so the bridal party had the best time and it got me to the ceremony right on time.
“Right from the start of our relationship we’ve enjoyed using the Coryton line as a great way to quickly access Penarth, with its beautiful front and many great restaurants.”
Fellow passengers and Transport for Wales staff offered their congratulations as the group travelled to Penarth aboard a brand-new Class 756 train.
The happy couple say the decision was prompted by the substantial improvements made across the network in recent years. Bethan explained: “Making the decision to use one of the lovely, new, electric trains to get to our wedding was one of the first we made.”
Chris, who is employed as a civil engineer, expressed his gratitude to TfW for ensuring Bethan arrived at the ceremony punctually.
He said: “For one day only, Transport for Veils””
Marie Daly, Chief Operating Officer at Transport for Wales, said: “We’re delighted that Bethan and Chris chose to make the South Wales Metro part of their wedding day.
“As regular users of the Coryton line, their journey is a reminder of how public transport connects people to the moments that matter.
“We’d like to congratulate them on their marriage and are pleased to have played a small part in their celebrations”.
