The warning comes ahead of the May 25 bank holiday weekend,
Travellers heading to France are at particular risk following the new rules introduced in April.
Markus Lindblad, head of legal and external affairs at Haypp , said: “For example, from April 2026, France introduced a sweeping ban on all nicotine pouches, criminalising both sale and possession.
“Individuals caught could face up to one year in prison and fines of up to €15,000.”
This equates to around £13,000.
While most UK airlines do not classify nicotine pouches as prohibited items, customs regulations differ by destination.

Mr Lindblad warned that carrying large quantities could still attract attention from customs officials, even if they do not contain tobacco.
He said that even if airlines allow the product, travellers must check the rules at their destination, as these can vary widely.
Traditional snus is banned across the European Union except in Sweden.
Tobacco-free nicotine pouches remain largely unregulated in the EU.
However, Mr Lindblad said countries are increasingly introducing their own restrictions.
He advised passengers to pack nicotine pouches securely in their carry-on luggage, keep all products together in original packaging, and be ready to explain their purpose if questioned by customs.
Mr Lindblad said: “Nicotine pouches are still a relatively new category and often unregulated.
“Because they’re similar to traditional snus, they can fall into a grey area, and decisions are often at the discretion of customs staff.
“The safest approach is always to check local regulations before you travel.”
