The road will be closed from next week and not reopen until September
Drivers and bus passengers in a part of Carmarthenshire will face disruption from next week as a main road through a village is set to be shut until September.
The B4317 Capel Ifan Road in Pontyberem will be closed from Monday for a period of six weeks. Carmarthenshire Council has said the closure is “essential” so that traffic signals – which were previously temporary – can be installed permanently.
Diversions will be in place from Monday morning and a temporary bus service, operated by First Cymru, will be introduced to transport people to nearby areas. Stay informed on Carms news by signing up to our newsletter here
However, the direct bus service between Pontyberem and Ponthenri will be cancelled for the duration of the works.
A spokeswoman for Carmarthenshire Council said: “An essential road closure will take place on the B4317 Capel Ifan Road in Pontyberem from Monday, July 20, for six weeks to allow the installation of traffic signals.
“A fully signed diversion route will be in place via the B4306, the B4309, the B4317 and vice versa, with pedestrian and vehicular access to individual properties maintained throughout the duration of the closure.
“To maintain public transport links, a temporary bus service 195A, operated by First Cymru, will be introduced to provide connections in Pontiets with services serving Maengwynne, Five Roads and Cynheidre.
“Service 195 will operate between Llanelli and Carmarthen via Pontyberem and Llannon, and service 197 will divert via Ponthenri.
“It will not be possible to operate a direct bus service between Pontyberem and Ponthenri during the works.
“A temporary bus service 195A shuttle will operate between Llanelli via Five Roads and Pontiets.”
