So why wasn’t our petition treated with the same concern as Michael Sheen’s presentaion?
The presence of toxic and carcinogenic chemicals at Cosmeston is not in dispute or the appalling effect they have on pregnancies, mums-to-be and early years development.
If there was any doubt surely this would have been dispelled listening to the harrowing story of a farmer who found a new born calf the mother of which had fed on toxic grass by such a former tip. Born with only three legs it could not survive. Others had experienced various forms of cancer.
And yet part of this tip is designated, unbelievably, as community allotments and orchard.
What effect will eating the produce have on babies and pregnancies if toxic chemicals caused a calf to be born with three legs?
Do we need more evidence or to take such a risk?
Will these gardeners be inhaling asbestos-laden dust for which there is no safe limit and according to government asbestos in schools policy devastates the lives of young children with mesothelioma?
We are constantly assured by those in authority our fears are unfounded and that this development is “tackling climate change head on”.
The general consensus at of the programme was these tips needed urgent action to be cleared up, not turned into housing estates, there was just to much evidence from so many people who had suffered from living near them.
Why take the risk.
Who in authority will step up and declare to take the blame and be responsible if people become ill.
Justifiably we feel we’ve been ignored on this matter but Michael Sheen nailed it on “Buried” and must be commended.
The Welsh Government has known about this for years so why was it left to Michael Sheen to spell it out .
Why hasn’t the eradication of these tips been followed with the same zeal and enthusiasm as pursuing the 20mph limit.
