The driver crashed into the man’s house before fleeing the scene
A homeowner has been left facing extensive repairs to his property after a driver lost control of their BMW car and smashed into his house. Footage shows the car’s driver getting out of the crash vehicle and then being driven away in a different car.
The incident happened on Maindee Road, Cwmfelinfach in Caerphilly borough at around 10pm on Wednesday, April 1. Homeowner Sion Hughes, 35, wasn’t in at the time but his home CCTV camera captured the crash.
It showed his shocked girlfriend, Becky, emerging from the house and asking the driver if he needed an ambulance.
Sion said: “The driver came over the brow of the hill, and from the sound of things attempted to start a deliberate wheelspin and lost control and hit my house.
“He got out and tried to make out to witnesses he wasn’t driving. He said something about his ‘buddy’, he couldn’t believe his ‘buddy’ ran off.
“He was trying to make out that he wasn’t the one driving – then he left the scene in another car before the police arrived.
“I won’t really know the extent of the damage until a surveyor has been out next week, but it looks like the front of the house will have to be taken down and rebuilt. The wall has been moved by the impact.
“It doesn’t look dramatic but it does mean it’s no longer attached to the rest of the house properly. I think the house insurance has it all covered thankfully.”
Police are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward and assist them with their investigation.
A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: “We received a report of a road traffic collision in Maindee Road, Cwmfelinfach at around 10.10pm on Wednesday, April 1.
“The collision involved one car which collided with a house. The driver of the car had left the scene prior to police attendance.
“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact us on 101, by direct message on social media or online, quoting log reference 2600100518.”
